Are you staying hydrated?

Being hydrated is important because water plays a vital role in many functions of the body. It helps to regulate body temperature, maintains fluid balance, supports digestion, supports brain function and supports physical performance - to name a few.

Most people in general don't drink enough water, which is an issue. If you're not sure, here are 5 signs you are dehydrated:

👉 Thirst: The most obvious sign of dehydration is feeling thirsty. When your body lacks water, it sends a signal to your brain that it needs fluids, and you feel thirsty.

👉 Dark urine: The color of your urine can be an indicator of your hydration status. When you're dehydrated, your urine becomes darker in color and more concentrated. In general, your urine should be light yellow or clear if you're adequately hydrated.

👉 Fatigue: Dehydration can cause fatigue and low energy levels. This is because your body needs water to function properly, and when it's dehydrated, your organs have to work harder to do their jobs, which can leave you feeling tired and sluggish.

👉 Headaches: Dehydration can also cause headaches. This is because when you're dehydrated, your brain tissue loses water, which can cause your brain to shrink and pull away from the skull, leading to a headache.

👉 Dry mouth and throat: Another sign of dehydration is having a dry mouth and throat. When your body is dehydrated, it produces less saliva, which can leave your mouth feeling dry and sticky.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it might help to track how much water you drink daily and always start the day with a glass of water!
